Kids' prescriptions for psychotic drugs skyrockets

...Study author William Cooper of Vanderbilt University says these drugs can have serious side effects, including weight gain, elevated cholesterol and diabetes.

They may be able to calm behavior outbursts in kids with attention problems, but so can stimulants, which generally are the drug of choice for those disorders.

The study appears in the journal Ambulatory Pediatrics, for release tomorrow.
