Lilly profit beats forecasts, helped by lower tax

Sales of Alimta, a new treatment for lung cancer, rose 86 percent to $136 million.Sales of Cialis, the anti-impotence pill sold in partnership with ICOS Corp.

Pfizer Inc.'s (PFE.N: Quote, Profile, Research) rival Viagra suffered a sales decline in the quarter, hurt by competition from Lilly's longer-acting product.Lilly reaffirmed its 2006 earnings forecast of $3.10 to $3.20 per share, first delivered last month and excluding special items.
